I have 3 cats, one that has tummy issues, so his poop SMELLS! I was emptying my old container every other day. This holds 5 days worth (sometimes 6). I have not had any issues with odor escaping. When you first scoop the box and open the trap door to let the used litter fall into the bag, I suppose some odor could escape then, but really, you've just stirred up the litter, so how can you tell if the odor is from what you just scooped or the storage receptacle? Point is, the room where my litter boxes are doesn't smell unless a cat just made a deposit. NOTE I followed the advice of a previous post - I don't tie knots in the bad. I use little zip ties. They are way more secure and you aren't wasting litter bag material. Just put 2 zip ties about an inch apart and cut between. You can get the zip ties at the hardware store for about $1.75 / 100. The only bad point about this product that I've found is that the little button that hold the top and bottom portions of the hinged receptacle closed is too weak to allow you to lift the unit using the hand hold in the back. Always support the bottom when you lift the container, especially it gets full.
